Free invoice generator
with PDF download
Fill in the form and the invoice builds itself as you type. Add your logo, tax, discounts and shipping in any of 40 currencies, then download the PDF or print it. No sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your browser.
A highlighted box does not hold a number we can read, so it counts as 0. Use digits and a decimal point, with no currency sign. Discounts go from 0 to 100%.
Some characters you typed are not in the PDF’s built-in font and will show as “?”. To keep them, press Print and choose “Save as PDF”.
Next: get this invoice paid
A PDF still has to be emailed, chased and matched to a payment. In Fynl the invoice goes out as a link your client pays online by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through your own Stripe account. Reminders go out on their own before and after the due date, and repeat invoices send themselves.

How to make an invoice in four steps
- Add your business. Your name, contact details and logo. They are remembered in this browser for next time.
- Add the client. Who pays, and the address or email they want on the invoice.
- List the work. One line per product or service, with the quantity and unit price. Add tax, a discount or shipping if you need them.
- Download or print. Check the preview, press Download PDF and email the file to your client.
What to put on an invoice
- Your business name, address and contact details, plus your tax or VAT number if you are registered.
- The client’s name and address.
- A unique invoice number. Number them in order so none go missing; the generator adds one to the number each time you start a new invoice.
- The invoice date and when payment is due.
- Each item or service with its quantity, unit price and amount.
- The subtotal, any discount, the tax for each rate and the total.
- How to pay you: bank details, a payment link or the cheque address.
Tax rules differ by country and state, so check what your tax office asks for. In some countries, such as Australia, a GST invoice must say “Tax invoice”, which is why the title can be changed.
How the totals are worked out
The maths is done in whole cents, so the numbers on the invoice always add up exactly.
- Each line is the quantity times the unit price, rounded to the nearest cent.
- The subtotal is the sum of the lines.
- A discount is a percentage of the subtotal.
- Tax is charged on what is left after the discount, once for each tax rate, and rounded to the cent.
- Shipping is added after tax, and any amount already paid comes off the total to give the balance due.
When a PDF is not enough
A PDF invoice works, but you still email it, wait, chase it and tick it off when the money arrives. Fynl does that part for you:
- Every invoice has a payment link. Clients pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through your own Stripe account, and where your Stripe account offers them, Affirm or Klarna let clients split the cost into monthly payments.
- Reminders go out on their own a set number of days before and after the due date, and stop when the invoice is paid.
- Repeat invoices go out on a schedule, and a receipt can be emailed when a payment is recorded.
- Quotes, contracts, your contacts and your Gmail inbox sit in the same place, starting at $49 a month.

Invoice generator FAQ
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. Make and download as many invoices as you like, with no account and no card. Each PDF carries a small “Made with Fynl” line at the bottom.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. The generator runs in your web browser on a phone or a computer. Fill it in, then download the PDF or print it.
Is what I type private?
Nothing you type is uploaded. The preview and the PDF are made in your browser, and your business details, logo and last invoice are saved only in that browser so you do not retype them. The “Forget my details” button clears them.
How are the tax and totals worked out?
Each line is the quantity times the unit price, rounded to the cent. The discount comes off the subtotal, and tax is charged on the discounted amount, once per tax rate. Shipping is added after tax, and any amount already paid comes off the total to give the balance due.
Can I charge different tax rates on different items?
Yes. Choose “A rate on each item” and give each line its own rate. The invoice shows one tax line for each rate, so a 0% item and a 20% item can sit on the same invoice.
Is shipping taxed?
No, shipping is added after tax. If your shipping is taxable where you are, add it as an item instead and it will be taxed with the rest.
Which currencies can I use?
40, including the US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dollar, the euro, the pound, the rupee and the yen. Amounts use the currency’s own decimals, so yen and won have none.
Can my client pay the invoice online?
Not from a PDF. In Fynl, which starts at $49 a month, the invoice goes out as a link your client pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through your own Stripe account, and reminders go out on their own.
