Drag Start and End until the piece begins and ends cleanly. It keeps looping on the beat while you adjust, so you hear exactly where it joins. Fit tempo sets the BPM so your selection fills whole bars exactly.

How to memorize with the looper

  1. Split it into short pieces. One sentence, verse or idea per pad. A short piece is easier to hold in your head than one long recording.
  2. Record each piece on its own pad. Press the red button: recording starts on the next bar. Say it, and press the button again; it stops at the end of the bar and starts looping straight away. Or upload audio you already have with the arrow button.
  3. Loop one pad. Listen a few times, then say it along with the recording.
  4. Add a gap. Set Gap after each play to as many bars as the piece itself (the pad shows how many) and say the line yourself in the gap, before you hear it again. Checking yourself is where it sticks.
  5. Move on, then join them up. When a pad feels easy, go to the next one. Then play the pads in order with the number keys and say the whole thing.

Slow it down to 0.75× while a piece is new, and set it back to normal speed once you can keep up. If a recording starts with a breath or ends with a long silence, use Trim start and end in the pad's ⋯ menu so it loops cleanly. A slower tempo gives you more time per bar, and Start metronome adds a click if you like to speak to a beat.

What people loop

A speech or a wedding toast. A sales pitch, a phone script or a price list. Lines for a play or an audition. A poem or the words of a song. Words and phrases in a new language, said by a teacher or a native speaker. Prayers and verses. Definitions and formulas the night before an exam.

Hearing it in your own voice is the point for many people, but you can just as well upload a lesson, a recording of a speaker or a voice note someone sent you.

Questions

Common questions

Is the audio looper free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no card and no limit on how often you use it.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

No. Recording, looping and saving all happen in your browser. Nothing you record or upload is sent to Fynl or to any server.

Will my recordings still be here next time?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device. Your pads are saved in the browser until you clear them. A private or incognito window forgets them when you close it, and clearing your browsing data removes them, so download any recording you want to keep.

Which audio files can I upload?

Any audio file your browser can play. MP3, M4A, AAC and WAV work in every major browser; OGG and WebM depend on the browser.

Is there a gap between loops?

No. Every pad loops seamlessly on the beat, with no pause between plays unless you choose one with Gap after each play. A loop always lasts a whole number of bars: if the audio is shorter, silence fills it up to the bar line. Trim it, or use Fit tempo in the trim window, to make it exact.

How does the metronome work?

Set the tempo with the slider, the − and + buttons or Tap tempo, and choose the beats per bar. Start metronome turns the click on. Pads start on the next bar line, recording starts on the next bar (after a one-bar count-in if nothing is playing), and when you stop it, it finishes at the end of the bar, so every recording loops in time.

Can I slow it down?

Yes. Speed goes from 0.5× to 1.5×. Like slowing down a tape, a slower speed also lowers the pitch, so use it while a piece is new and go back to 1× once you can keep up.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Allow the microphone when the browser asks, and keep the page open while it plays, because a locked screen can pause the loop.

Can I cut the start and end of a recording?

Yes. Open the pad's ⋯ menu and choose Trim start and end. Drag Start and End while the piece keeps looping, so you hear exactly where it joins, then save. Trimming never changes the original: Reset brings back the whole recording, and Download saves the full file.

Can two pads play at the same time?

No. Only one recording plays at a time: starting a pad stops the one that was playing. With the metronome on, the switch happens on the next bar line, so you stay on the beat.

Why should I use headphones?

When you record while the metronome or other pads are playing, headphones keep those sounds out of the microphone, so the pad records only your voice.
